Chief Operations Officer
The Chief Operations Officer is responsible for the effective administration and oversight of the Executive Team of New Life Ministries (NLM), ensuring the provision of spiritual/biblical worldview, leadership, management, and accountability for the quality of the overall New Life experience. NLM has more than 3,000 participants in multiple ministries throughout the week. The Chief Operations Officer reports to the Executive Director/Lead Pastor and maintains working partnerships with all leadership teams and employees of New Life. New Life Ministries has adopted the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) leadership and management framework. Throughout this job description, terminology from the EOS model will be referenced.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Leadership, Management, and Accountability
- Understands the importance of and has the heart of a shepherd that can love the community at large, including congregants, students, families, staff, faculty and leadership.
- Owns the implementation and execution of EOS throughout the whole ministry.
- Leads, manages, and holds the L10 team accountable for EOS measurables.
- Works with leadership teams to create and execute the financial strategic plan and achieve or exceed planned EOS objectives.
- Integrates NLC/NLA/Foundation financially as one ministry.
- Oversees the major operating functions of the business such as HR, Finance, Facilities, Hospitality, and IT. Ensures all aspects of the ministry are working together and heading in the same direction.
- Resolves operational issues effectively by identifying the problem, being comfortable with conflict, calling out the problems, and solving the problems in a practical and healthy manner. Ensures the leadership team is healthy, functional, and cohesive.
- Ensures that everyone is following, and adhering to, the company’s core processes and operating system with consistency.
- Models the way, always working toward the greater good of the business.
- Demonstrates effective project management skills.
- Demonstrates an obsession with the purpose, vision, and values of New Life as an education focused ministry.
- Effectively collaborates with the Executive Director/Lead Pastor and stays on the same page. Maintains a high level of mutual respect with the Executive Director/Lead Pastor.
- Understands the unique contributions and ideas that the Executive Director/Lead Pastor has and possesses an ability to filter and translate those ideas into functional plans for the company.
- Confirms that all key messages are properly and consistently cascaded across the organization. Ensures that everyone is in the know. Verifies that a high level of effective communication exists throughout the organization.
- Holds people accountable to a standard of excellence for all aspects of the ministry.
- Builds upon and strengthens our Christ-centered culture.
- Drives decisions and actions consistent with New Life’s Vision and Mission and pursues our strategic objectives.
Administration
- Oversees the L10 team that consists of the Ministry Director, Principals, Advancement Director, and Director of Strategic Initiatives.
- Leads the L10 executive team in business and financial management, including annual budget formulation, stewardship of resources, planning and financial forecasting and reporting.
- Is responsible for hiring and supervising staff.
- Develops and administers operating and personnel policies for the ministry.
Development, Growth, and Planning
- Works with Executive Director/Lead Pastor to identify capital and staffing requirements needed for the ministry to achieve its mission.
- Provides input on long-range strategic planning and directives and policies.
- Supports the Advancement Director in development and fundraising, including solicitation of major gifts, special fundraising events and capital campaigns and cultivation of relationships with ministry supporters as well as identifying and engaging potential new supporters.
Community Building
- Maintains an environment of openness and trust, recognizing the needs, concerns and expectations of all constituents within the New Life community.
- Promotes New Life in the metropolitan community and the Christian community at large.
- Represents the ministry to its various constituencies, including congregants, participants, parents, grandparents, alumni, friends, and the New Life community.
Education and Experience
- At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree.
- 7-10 years’ experience in a leadership role in a large non-profit/for-profit organization. (church/school environment highly preferred)
- Leadership within the business side of Christian ministry desirable.
Spiritual
- A committed and “born again” Christian as described in John 3
- Qualified as a biblical leader in accordance with scripture
- A godly example of servant-leadership
- An active member of New Life Church or willing to become a member and actively involved in New Life Church.
